''Autoimmunity – when your body turns on itself'' by Patrick Bouic, PhD, Healthy Immunity First Edition

Lupus, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis are just a few of the many autoimmune diseases that cause debilitating illness. Until recently, treatment options were few and many had serious side effects. Standard medical treatments keep the immune system suppressed, increasing the risk of cancer and infectious diseases.
Now a simple complex of plant fats has changed all that. Sterols and sterolins now offer relief of autoimmune symptoms. Inflammation, pain and destruction of body tissues are stopped in their tracks by these powerful plant nutrients.
Reseachers believe that stress, viral infections, poor nutrition and pollution play a role in the development of autoimmune diseases causing the immune system to become confused and attack the very body it is supposed to protect.
Complex sequences of events take place on a minute-to-minute basis as our immune system protects us from invaders. Several important cells make up this system, but two types of T helper cells, Th-1 and Th-2, determine whether we become ill or stay healthy. When Th-1 cell function is low our ability to fight off cancer, bacteria and viruses is reduced. And when Th-2 cell function is high our production of antibodies is increased and secretion of Interleukin-6, a powerful inflammatory factor, also increases. Both these factors are implicated in the development and progression of autoimmune disease. The key to health is keeping Th-1 and Th-2 cells in harmonious balance.
Scientists in South Africa have found a way to naturally balance the activity of these cells using a proprietary blend of plant sterols and sterolins. Several double-blind, placebo controlled studies have shown that sterols and sterolins in the correct ratio will keep Th-1 cells functioning at their optimal level and keep Th-2 cells from over producing antibodies and inflammatory agents such as Interleukin-6. Inflammation decreases, pain subsides and damaged tissues begin to heal. As symptoms subside, many of those with lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune disorders find their joy of life returns as they can again take part in normal daily activities.
