Condition
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
Explanation
HIV focuses its attack on the T-helper cells (CD4). These cells help coordinate the immune system response to the HI virus. This strong virus is able to disarm the body’s ability to fight off disease and as a result, CD4 counts decline.
Sterols and sterolins have been shown, in HIV research, to stabilize CD4 counts (for people with CD4 counts above 200). These important plant fats increase the secretion of “good” immune factors in the body, e.g. interferon.
Research results also showed a significant decrease in the plasma viral load of subjects who began the study with CD4 counts more than 500. Interestingly, 15% of this group had undetectable viral load after 12 months.
